Statement made by a mother about her mixed baby
Hello everyone, I wanted to get anyone else’s opinion on a statement I heard a mother say about her mixed baby girl.
This mother seems very annoyed of her children anytime I see her at drop off at my daughters preschool. I say this because of MANY instances I have witnessed while waiting for drop off. The other day her daughter, who is about 12 months, was just sitting in the sun waiting for her brother to go into the classroom. The teacher comes out and says, “awww little love is getting some sun” and the mother says, “yeah well she doesn’t need anymore sun.” ….. ???????
I just stood there completely dumbfounded by her statement and wondered what she may have meant by that.
Tell me, am I going crazy for wondering what she had meant from saying that about her mixed child?
For reference the mother is a white woman and her children are mixed.
** update with more context
I am not the kind of person to place racist behavior on everyone. I came to this question because of things that I have witnessed her say and do. In particular with her son who is the one who attended the school he is 4 years old. She grabs him very roughly where he makes a squeak when she does. She shoves him into the classroom and if he doesn’t want to she gets down to his face and in a very deep mean voice says “get your ass in that classroom” and proceeded to shove him in again.
As for the baby girl who is maybe 12-18 months. She’s darker skinned than the boy and the mother says things like “she naturally looks dirty,” “yeah, her hair will grow so I can straighten it” and also the comment I referred to in this post. She yells at the baby for walking to slow for her liking or getting distracted while she walks. The baby seems startled anytime the mother picks her up abruptly and also when she yells at her.
On this day the mother and son were standing in the shade and she left the baby to sit in the sun. So this is why I don’t think she was concerned about the baby being sunburned, or she could have moved her to the shade with her.
She also states bad things about the children’s father.
Another mom and I both try to talk and have conversations with her but she just laughs, snickers and looks away. So I gave up trying.
