New backpacks every year?

Question

Those with school aged kids, do you buy them a new backpack every year, even if their old one is in good condition?
Also, what's a good backpack brand?

yeah. but… only because i remember as a child the joy of having a new backpack to show off at school. it was my favorite part of the first day of school lol so i let my son pick his for the year.

No. We bought them pricier ones from LL Bean, and they’ve lasted my oldest from 2nd through 6th and my youngest from K through 4th, so far. They’re still going strong. I wash them once over winter break and once over summer break. 
The only real wear on them is the mesh on my son’s where you might place a water bottle, so they’ve lasted really, really well.
The LL Beans do come with some type of warranty, I just can’t remember the details and we’ve never needed to use it.

Definitely not. I buy my kids more sturdy brands like UA, hershel, Nike etc, and they generally last 2-3 years (we use them all summer too). I only buy them new ones when the old ones aren’t usable anymore.

No. If they're in good condition we don't get a new one. Only reason I got her a new one last year is because she needed something bigger(and a got a nice one for a really good deal I couldn't pass up)

I’ve gotten my daughter a new one every year and donated the last one since they’re always still in great shape. I think one year my daughter still really liked the one for the year before so she kept it but that was only once. Same goes for lunch kit and pencil cases, etc.

I used the same pink corderoy backpack from preschool until my junior year of highschool, and its replacement is still in use six years later... They last a long time

I only got them when I needed them. More often in grade school because little kids are hard on stuff. But I had 1 from 6-10 grade and the one I got after that I still have and used all through the rest of high school and college. To just get a new one to get one is weird to me but if you have a kid not excited about school and picking a new back pack could help go for it. Probably depends on the kid but it it is in good shape and still working why get a new one.

No. We have only gotten them new ones if they needed them, or if they reaaalllllllyyyy wanted a different one. The last few we bought were UA brand. They have lasted. As a kid I remember wanting all new clothes and backpacks every year. Mine so far have not cared as much. 😅☺️
