What are your thoughts about these statements ?

“A woman can’t teach her son to be a man.”
“A man can’t teach his daughter to be a woman.”
Do you agree or disagree?
What is being a man? What is being a woman?

Disagree with both, statements like these are routed in toxic masculinity and misogyny.
What is being a man or a woman?
Does liking traditionally masculine activities make someone less of a woman?
What about men who pursue traditionally feminine careers? (We need more male nurses, teachers, and midwives!!) Is this less masculine? 
What about those who feel they don’t fit into either?
I think we need to start focusing on individuality rather than gender.

I'm not trying to teach my daughter to be a woman and I'm also not teaching my boys to be men. I teach them to be decent people and how to master life to the best of my knowledge. They all get the same knowledge from us as parents and we set the same expectations for all of them.

I feel like the heart of both of these statements is “child rearing should only be done within a heterosexual marriage, and any other arrangement  raising children is somehow less than.” Of course this isn’t true, but a lot of people think like this.

My sister and I were raised by a single dad. My mother had almost no involvement in our upbringing. I didn’t turn out to be less of a woman because my mom wasn’t around. 
The statement is ignorant.

I have a son and I have a daughter. I'm not raising them differently based on what sex they are. Obviously I'll have to teach them to clean privates differently, but outside of that they are being raised exactly the same.

So we’re raising our kids to be good people and I’m raising my son as a boy and my daughters as girls, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t teach my son to be a good “man” and my daughters can’t learn to be good “women” from their dad.
