Am I a bad wife?

Okay okay so I get very annoyed when my husband talks about work. I get it, when he gets off work he vents I listen. Don’t get me wrong I listen but he is constantly talking about work and if he isn’t talking about work he’s talking to his co-workers on the phone. I be like, damn leave work at work. I’m supportive of him and I’ve told him a couple times that our only convos are about his job…. It’s like we don’t talk about anything else…. We go out to dinner, yep our convo is about his job….. btw he is a plumber and he works 40 hours a week and is sometimes on call. So like he isn’t working like 60-80 hours a week. I don’t mind listening to him but not when we’re in the shower, in bed, at dinner, on our daily walks. How else can I let him know without shutting him out or making seem like he can’t talk to me about work? Like there should be boundaries…..

Ugh that would get irritating, maybe you could both agree on a certain time frame that you can each talk about work, like when he gets home, half hour to talk about how his day went, vent, & then move on & have other conversations maybe?? I’m not sure how to go about that without hurting anyones feelings!

Sounds like jealousy. I talk to my husband about work all of the time. Literally bc he’s my best friend and I like to talk to him about my day. If he told me that it bothered him, I would feel hurt and not heard and then probably seek out to someone else to talk to. Be thankful he tells you about his day.

I think this is rude. Most adults make friends through work. There aren’t many other places to make friends as an adult. He’s talking about his friends and his work week. My husband talks about his job and work friends to me too. I listen and engage just as he listens and engages with me about my job stuff. I can’t imagine just not hearing about a big portion of my husband’s life and friendships.

My husband and I both wfh with the same company and we have established times to talk about work. On the weekends we have a no work talk zone and of course sometimes things pop up that we want to share and we listen to each other but it’s helped with the work life balance.
