Anyone give birth with the epidural but DID NOT push baby on back?

What other positions can you push baby out with epidural? I don’t want to be on my back this time around… it was so hard to push my baby out, he melts going back inside

The epidural I had numbed me from the waste down. It would have been nearly impossible.

You can see if your hospital offers a “walking epidural”. Some do and some wont.  Some positions are on your side. On a yoga or peanut ball or on hands and knees. Some hospitals have policies for not allowing but this is due to fall & due risk. But definitely ask :)

I tried on my hands and knees and also on my side. I pushed forever and ended up finally getting her out on my back after 6 hours of switching between those 3 positions

You can birth in more positions than on your back with an epidural!!

With my oldest I could have pushed on my hands and knees since the epidural only curbed the edge, but I didn't. With my youngest I couldn't move from the waist down so there's no way that would have been an option.

With a true epidural your on your back on stuck on your side as your completely numb from the waste down so you wont be able to do anything

My hospital would let you into any position where you physically stayed on the hospital bed (couldn’t get out of the bed), but strongly preferred you being on your back, particularly for safety.

I don’t know if it’s possible with an epidural but standing is apparently one of the best for birthing as gravity makes it that much easier for pushing. I don’t have experience with epidural but I had one back labour and one standing labour and standing was by far the easiest! No stitching or tearing what so ever.

In my area they do an epidural, that only takes the "edge" off from pain.
So I was walking around etc could have given birth in any position I am sure. But ended up having an emergency csection.

On my side. For insurance purposes my hospital confines you to the bed because if you fall, you'll sue them.
