Nothing you could do?

The spanking question below got me thinking about this. 
What do you do if you’re 100% against spanking but your child’s father is for it? Like what if you’re separated and you can’t control what they use for punishment at their house? Considering spanking isn’t considered abusive legally, there’s nothing really you could do in that situation. 🤷🏾‍♀️

It’s been illegal since 1972 where I’m from because it’s physical abuse, so I would get him locked up if that was the case. 😌

There isn't anything you can do because the father is the parent of the child too. All you could do was have a conversation about it or not let the dad around the child, but unless there's a legal reason he isn't allowed around the child you can't really keep him away from the child

Well, it would have to be a change of mind for sure because I would not have a baby with someone who thought it was okay. That's a good thing to clear like the amount of children you want.
But I would do everything in my power to get full custody of my child. Whatever I could to protect my child.
Luckily I do live somewhere it's illegal so I've never put much thought to it.

My husband and I are together and he thinks spanking is okay and I don’t like it. I used to think a swat on the bottom wouldn’t hurt anything when we were younger and had our first but then I educated myself on it. I also have my degree in social work now and earned it when my oldest was 2 years old and I was 22 years old. My husband doesn’t even want to be educated on the topic and believes since he was spanked as a kid and in return listened and respected his parents then it’s right. He also thinks that kids think they can do whatever they want now days and don’t have to listen because there is no consequences. He tries to tell me our kids listen better to him because he spanks them if they misbehave. He doesn’t think any other form of discipline or consequences is effective. I can’t change his mind set unfortunately. We have 3 kids together and our kids adore him. He really is a good dad other than that. I wish there was some sort of agreement we could come to on this matter.

That was the case with my mom and dad, he believes in physical punishment and she doesn't but they are divorced so he did physical punishment whenever we were with him. After 3 years living with him I moved back with my mom and stayed away from my dad.

Its abuse. And most states have it illegal and a felony child abuse charge, so you can push the issue if you want to. You also can go to court about it and have the judge/mediator put it in the plan no spanking and if they do they lose rights or whatever the mediator feels is right.

My husband proposed spanking when one of our kids was going through a rough stage. I asked him a few questions to get him to process it more and he very quickly changed his mind. Here were a few- 
1. If hes acting up in school, would you be ok with his teacher spanking him? If not, why? If it's a legitimate form of discipline, why cant she use it, too? Why do we expect more from her in terms of finding alternative methods, especially when she has a room full of kids and we have just 1? Because we are the parents? How is that not a circular argument?
2. If our dog isnt doing what we keep telling him eg barking, is it ok to grab and spank the dog? No, why not? We literally own the dog. It doesnt have human rights. 
Questions like these can often spark a new perspective vs simply arguing or saying 'it's not nice'

Oh, yikes. I wouldn’t think there’s anything you could do, unfortunately 😔. Truly don’t understand why spanking isn’t illegal everywhere. I wouldn’t feel comfortable at all sending my child, but you can’t keep them from going if there’s a custody agreement in place.
