What happens if sperm is already there before the egg arrives?

I'm really curious about this. Say your ovulation is happening but you already had sex prior to that. 
So the the egg arrives where it's suppose to be and the sperm is already there waiting. Does this make the process quicker or does it change anything?

Sperm can live inside your body for 3 to 5 days depending on your cm type. And its best to have sperm waiting.

That’s the most ideal place for sperm to be, which is why having sex on peak opk test day is recommended since you drop your egg (ovulate) 12-48 hrs after the LH surge. You can also get pregnant for a day or two afterwards since the egg is still traveling and new sperm can meet it on the way to the uterus. It’s really like 3 days where you can get pregnant. Our true fertile window is not really that long which is why it can take many couples some time to conceive.
