What’s wrong with my daughter toe nails?

My daughter has had these like super thick nails since she was a newborn there was a time I asked her pediatrician what it was and she said it’s normal. It doesn’t seem normal and as he got older it went to almost all her toes (it started off on the pinkies) but it looks like so much overgrowth like layering but I have no idea what it is I just cut her toe nails so it’s not that noticeable

It looks a little like a nail fungus but idk it’s weird the doctor said it’s normal.

Take her to a podietrist. Its not normal to have thickened or discolored nails like that. Could be a fungus. Usually in adults that whats causes thickened and discolored nails. Some health issues cause it aswell. Take her to a podiatrist

So it is normal for a baby to have oddly misshapen toenails, but I don’t think that thickening and that discoloration is normal. I would get another opinion on that. Or just take her back to the pediatrician and show that it’s gotten worse, not better.

Some diabetics have toenails like this… (not saying that could be that)but I would get it checked out by another dr. Just to be safe

My son has had this same issue since he was a newborn. He is now 17 months old. His started on both big toes and on one foot moved to the middle toe. We asked his pediatrician that we had up until he was 15 months old and she said it was normal and didn’t have any recommendations. We recently moved and have a new pediatrician, so I plan to ask him at our 18 month appointment. It’s worrisome, because like all the other comments it is usually a fungus related thing in adults. And, it makes cutting those nails really difficult because of how thick they are.

You probably want to find a pediatric podiatrist. They will be able to help you better than just a normal pediatrician. You need someone that specializes in feet.
