My husband would not let me buy an equinox. Apparently they're very unreliable and have a lot of problems.

Depends on a lot more than mileage. Was the car maintained? Do you have someone trustworthy to take the car to for them to check out? There can be so much hidden stuff wrong with cars that age that mileage alone is not enough for me to judge. If that's all you're concerned about check out the kbb see if the price is in that range.
