Potty training at birth and up?

Question

I’ve been seeing a lot of moms potty training their infants. Any experts on the topic? I have an infant and would start but also I thought if you start too soon they can get it and then lose progress later ?? I’m confused.

That’s just elimination communication meaning the parent has learned all the cues and puts their infant on the toilet at just the right time. The infant isn’t at all potty trained.

I do elimination communication with my infant. We started when she was 5 days old. She kept waiting till I took off her diaper then she’d pee or poop everywhere. She didn’t want to soil herself, and most babies have the instinct not to. If you put them on a receptacle, they will go if they have to. 
You can use a tiny potty, any kind of bowl or even hold them over a regular toilet or sink. The trick is to offer regular and consistent “pottytunities” (opportunities to potty 🙃) 
Easy catches are before or after naps, eating, baths. when you take them in or out of a carrier or car seat, and outfit changes. Once they can predict when you’re going to offer they’re more likely to wait to go. They can’t really hold it for long, so still use a diaper as a back up. 
When you’re about them on the potty make sure you say something like “time to potty.” Then when they’re on the potty give them a cue to go, like a “psss psss” sound or something. I also announce when my daughter goes either one, labeling it pee pee or poo poo, so she can learn what it is. 
Lastly, don’t celebrate or condemn afterwards. Try to be as neutral as possible. Either a moment of silence, or what I say is “you pee peed/poo poo’d in the potty.” And then clean up. I take her tiny potty to the sink, run some water then dump it in the toilet. Easy peasy. So many less diapers! And blowouts 😅

Also know that you don’t have to be perfect or do it full time. I don’t do it at night and only sometimes on outings and that doesn’t effect her negatively at all. She’s still learning that pee pee and poo poo go in the potty and that will make her transition out of diapers MUCH easier when it’s time! Good luck!

I’m by no means an expert, but we started my daughter on the potty around 10 months. Typically you can’t really expect kids to be fully day potty trained before 2 (their bladders are still very immature), so the goal of early potty training isn’t to get them to hold it, but rather just to get them used to the sensation of needing to go, and getting them on the potty.
My daughter is 18m now. We still keep her in diapers but I would say at home she has maybe 1-2 accidents per week. When we’re out of the house she usually goes in her diaper because we can’t always get to a toilet and, like I said, we can’t expect her to hold it. But it’s dramatically reduced the number of diapers we use.
We started early initially because she kept pooping in the bath. We have done sign language with her from birth, so we really focused on the signs for poop and potty, and she very quickly was able to sign to us when she needed to go.

Well that's not actually potty training it's EC. A little baby can't be potty trained. It's actually very time consuming but it could save a ton on diapers if you became good at always catching when your baby needs to go. I'd say you definitely couldn't do this unless you were a stay at home mom with baby 24/7.
