Do they drug test at every visit?

Question

I live in Tennessee and am on Tenncare. They test my urine at every visit. I know they test for sugar and protein, but are they also testing for drugs? Every time they take my urine sample the immediate next questions are "are you taking any medications?" "Are you ssuuuurrree?" I know if I've been using drugs or not! I kind of feel violated. Shouldn't they tell me if they're drug testing me? Or at least ask? Or are they legally able to do so just because I'm on government assistance?

What even happens to those who test positive for drugs? Do they inform them and tell them to stop or just wait til baby is born and cps takes the baby away? If they are drug testing all on gov assistance, the number of women who start turning down prenatal care is going to skyrocket. This can't be doing much more good than bad.

They test all mothers for drugs, but not at every visit, if you test positive at any point yhen I'm sure they would drug test more often, if you test positive when you give birth then they will call cps.

They test for drugs throughout the entire pregnancy, but not every appointment. Of course, if a test does come back positive, then they'll do tests more often. 
When you first started seeing your doc, usually they have a bunch of papers for you to sign. One of those is a form getting your signature so you can be randomly drug tested throughout the pregnancy. 
If you test positive, then CPS will be notified. When babies are born, they always test the baby for drugs, as well.

But, if you're not doing drugs, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. 😉

You give a urine sample at every visit because they are looking for sugar, bacteria and protein.

Drug testing is not really standard, as far as I know that requires sending it to a lab, it's not something they can do right in the office.

Seems like it would expensive to send it off for drug testing at every visit!

I'm on gov assistance and my ob only drug tests if she's suspicious. They always ask me if I'm taking any medication, but they don't ask twice lol its just protocol.

All mamas are tested as are all newborns. Especially with the heroin epidemic that is sweeping the country right now, there is this fail safe put in place to help mamas and their kiddo's if drugs end up being a part of the equation.

I'm not on govt assistance and they test mine every time. I looked at it once when they left the room and they are testing for many things but I do believe they test for drugs as well.

I got a bill that they tested me on my first visit...two drug tests at that! I'm really hoping they don't do it every appointment because I find it silly to pay for them each time! (Not on assistance, but still tested...if that answers your question)

The clinic I go to tests me every visit. They test every person for each visit regardless of why they are there. For example, when I was there for lab results, I got tested, pap smear, tested, pregnancy confirmation, tested. It's such a waste of money if you ask me. Tax dollars hard at work. 😕
