What Laundry detergent does everyone use?

I feel like we constantly are buying laundry detergent! We have 3 kids and I'm pregnant with our 4th. The kids are 12, 4 and 1(the one year old has ! The toddlers(both boys) are definitely more brutal on their clothes than the 12(a girl who's a total princess &diva). I'm constantly doing laundry between clothes and sheets and blankets for our beds and bath towels and kitchen towels it never ends! With a baby on the way to make us a family of 6 it will definitely pile up even quicker! I've read a bit about making our own, and I'm a little skeptical. The people that use homemade laundry detergent it swear by it though!
