My grandmother tried to make me get on the pill

So this happened about 3 years ago but a post made me think about it so I wanted to share this and see other’s opinions on it.

When I turned 15 my grandmother was determined to get me on the pill, she said I’d be easy and end up a single mother, and when I told her I didn’t want to get on birth control she still pressed on about it. I remember a couple years back she told me she always thought I’d end up as a single parent and never get married. I was young but I still remember all those comments she made.

Now I’m 18 and my boyfriend and I have been together for a year, I’m still not on the pill but we use other things for protection obviously. My friends have told me to get on it too, but I don’t want to. I don’t feel like that’s the decision I want to make for me, I’ve never judged any of my friends who have taken birth control because it’s their body and they get to choose what’s best for them, but they judge me for not wanting to do what they do.

I think my grandmother pushing so much when I was younger made me hate the idea of the pill or any other birth control products. I don’t want the pill, I don’t want the shot, I don’t want the one they put in your arm or anything inserted into me, I just want to do my little thing and go into target to get my usual contraceptives and go about my life.

Some of my friends say she was just looking out for me, but honestly the idea of sex wasn’t even on my mind at 15, or 16, once I met my boyfriend the idea did happen obviously but I wasn’t stupid and neither was he so ofc we use protection.

In my mind, any kind of contraceptive can fail even birth control. And I’m perfectly fine without being on it, that isn’t what I WANT, I’m 18, I work, I graduated, I pay for my own things and I’m moving out soon into my own home and I’m so sick of people still pressing the pill on me like it’s some requirement.
