Question

Curious to see how other people go about choosing a name they feel is unique! Do you take a relatively popular name and change the spelling? Do you go into baby name lists and pick one that both sounds different to you AND has the rarity to back it up? Do you do something entirely different? Let me know! 🧡

Meant to click other. I don't think misspelling a name makes it unique or makes it a different name. I considered a name "unique" enough if it was lower than 100 on SSA's list. One of my son's was at like 190 the year I picked it out, another at 410, and my daughter's is in the mid 200s. 
I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with a "non" unique name either. One of my son's first name is a top five name since probably biblical days lol. He goes by a slightly less common NN but his first name is spelled traditionally and his nn is also a "normal" spelling.

Just choose a name you love that’s not to popular. Changing the spelling doesn’t make it unique.

My parents named me Lindsay, but wanted a unique spelling. So it’s spelled Lynzee. I hate this. For whatever reason, people don’t know how to pronounce it, and it’s just annoying lol 
I said I would never do that to my child. Then I named my oldest Ammarie. Her dad chose it and I really liked it at first. I wish now that I had stuck to my guns because I see her having the same frustrations that I had growing up. So my second is named Benjamin and the baby I’m pregnant with now is Collin lol 😂

I think spelling a name differently is a nightmare for the child. They don't want to spend their life explaining their name. I had to with my last name and glad I have a common married name now. 😊

We went with names that was popular 90-150 years ago, so while well known they are rare for someone born the last 5-10 years. Think great grand parent names. 
Spelling names crazy to make it unique typically isn't allowed here(yes names has to be approved) and for statistics names with the same pronunciation get combined so Alice, Alise, Ahlice, Allise would still get counted as the same name.

we don’t go crazy unique, we basically just find/think of a name we both like and then if we don’t know anyone or only know like 1 person with it, we go with it 🤷🏼‍♀️ i don’t the dumbass Renaleigh spelling trends that people think are unique lol. Like my sons name is Bennett, if we have a boy again it’ll be Colson, and if we have a girl it’ll be either Blair or Alice. Simple, not crazy overused, and no one we know.

We just hit the classics. We've got an Evelyn and a Dennis and this is our current running list for if we have a 3rd. Boys on top, girls on bottom. Nothing crazy or too unique. Just names you don't hear as often anymore.
