Temp tracking?

Question

Can someone explain to me how the temp tracking works? I use opk strips, but I’ve seen some people say the strips don’t confirm ovulation and only temping does? 
Do you start the temping just like the opk strips? Does it have to be right when you wake up? And can you use a regular thermometer? 😂 
I also am a hot sleeper, would that not affect the temperatures?

So yes, Opks only detect a surge in LH. You have to be temping (BBT) to actually confirm ovulation occurred. You would need to purchase a basel thermometer (little different than a regular one) You temp vaginally every morning at the same time (set an alarm) without moving or getting out of bed. You start soon as period ends or is slow enough to not make a huge mess. You temp every day consistently and log the temps into the app. You temp vaginally because it’s most accurate and same time every morning so it’s accurate readings and information being logged.

If you really want to track your cycle I can highly recommend the Oura ring! The ring measures your temperature throughout the night so that way you don’t have to worry about temping in the morning at the same time before moving too much etc.. It’s a bit more expensive but it connects to the natural cycles app which is a FDA cleared birth control app that tells you when you’re fertile and so on. It works like a dream and you don’t have to worry about anything. I really love it and can only recommend it 😃

Everyone has explained the basics but I thought it might be useful for you to see a chart so you can see what they mean. Here's mine from this current cycle:

As you can see, temp rise confirms ovulation. If the temps stay above the cover line (horizontal red line) you're in with a good chance of confirming pregancy. If they start to drop, it suggests AF is on the way (although you can have a sudden drop in the day of AF and it's not always a gradual decline).

You temp every day of the month starting at CD1 or you can start before to get your routine going. Before you really move in the morning take your basal body temperature and keep track of the temps. The day after you ovulate your temp will generally rise about .3-.6 degrees but some women have more of a temp rise. Being a hot sleeper won’t affect taking your temps but the time that you take them should be around the same time everyday. Any fluctuations in time will show a change and not give accurate temp readings.
