Independence

I picked my little up from school today and her teacher mentioned that she isn't really independent. She cries when she can't get things right away and doesn't use her words (she uses them when she's home and other places) when she wants things. I feel like a failure. How did you get independent children lol I still feed her from time to time when she's playing around lol. I know I need to stop and I'm now making efforts to have her do things independently but what else???
