Why do my cloth diapers smell weird

I’ve been noticing that every time my son wears his cloth diapers there is a very strange, unpleasant smell (not talking about poo) Don’t really know how to describe it. Anyone know what I’m talking about?

Does it smell like a barnyard or the zoo? If so, they aren't being washed well enough (bad detergent, one wash cycle, overnight diapers, etc). The smell is urine and/or fecal matter buildup. You can soak them in warm water and bleach for 30-45 minutes then wash them a few times and it will get rid of it. I had it happen every once in a while to my overnight diapers. A 30 minute bleach soak followed by normal wash routine (two washes always) fixed them right up.
