Did you get emotional when you stopped breastfeeding?

Question

So I have an 18 months old boy, I was planning on weaning him off by the 2 years mark, but unfortunately i have to travel overseas soon so i decided to wean him off now, i started gradually with 1 time instead of two a day and for the next 10 days i will give him regular milk on and off until i stop completely. 
Today was the first day, instead of breastfeeding him before bed i gave him regular milk. He took it and went to sleep, i don't know but it just hit me out of nowhere that this is the first day since he was born that he slept without taking the boob, and i started sobbing, it was a tough and a very long journey, and it's not over yet since I'm going to be breastfeeding him on and off for the next 10 days but i don't know what happened to me, i got super emotional out of nowhere! Anyone else been through this ? 
Also what should i expect when i stop completely? Should i eat or drink something to help stop the milk flow ?

I stopped at 7 months as he wouldn’t take the boob anymore. Man did I cry that night. Maybe because it was earlier than what I wanted, but yes I was really sad. End of an era.

No I did it for 3 years, but once you do it so long the milk just takes forever to dry up and I stopped feeding her daily in February and now I’m on baby number 2. Definitely was over breastfeeding the first year tho😂

My daughter self weaned at 15 months. I knew it was coming so I thought I would be better prepared but it was still sad. Allow yourself to mourn. It’ll be okay

As long as you do it slowly enough your body will stop making milk on it's own so you don't need to do anything extra. 
I didn't get emotional from a sentimental standpoint, but know that's totally normal! Also be prepared for the hormonal shift to possibly make you feel sad/depressed/anxious for a week or two while your hormones level out and your brain gets used to no longer getting hits of oxytocin every time you nurse. I got "weaning blues" each time after I weaned my girls. Acupuncture helped level me out a lot faster with my second vs my first when I didn't do anything for it.

I stopped cold Turkey which is not recommended so it was a painful process.

I was away from my 19m old for 6 days and was prepared for her to not want to nurse when I returned, so the last week before I left I basically cried every time I nursed her. Turns out she did want to nurse when I returned and even though I didn’t express for those 6 days apart my milk was still flowing 🤷🏼‍♀️
But yes I am going to be an emotional wreck when we do stop nursing. I love breastfeeding her, she’s such a busy baby that it’s the only time I really get to snuggle her!
