TDC Removal?

My daughter was born with a thyroglossal duct cyst. It’s basically just a birth defect that resulted in a cyst/bump on the front of her neck. It’s never bothered her but now that she’s almost 5, she plays with it and says it hurts a little if she looks up and bends her neck back. Her doctor isn’t concerned but said at some point we’ll want to remove it surgically to prevent future potential infections or complications. Anyone experienced this procedure either themselves or with your kid? I literally live 2 miles from a world class hospital but am a nervous wreck over this!
