Court order - could I get in trouble
My son is a teenager. Doesn’t have a good relationship with his bio dad, never really has. He last saw his dad in June. His dad hasn’t reached out or anything since then. The only communication we’ve had recently was asking him if he was going to make it to our sons last sporting event of the season. To which he said no, he wasn’t coming. We have a court order from 2009 stating that his dad has visitation by the parenting time guidelines and I have sole custody. His dad doesn’t enforce his parenting time but obviously I don’t either because our son just wants to end the relationship with him entirely. The holidays are coming up and it’s his dads year to have him for thanksgiving, and our year for Christmas. My son has expressed multiple times that he doesn’t want to visit his dads anymore and I have no problem letting him make that decision. My only concern is IF his dad does try to take me to court, could I be held in contempt for not making my son go during his dad’s visitation holidays? I mean, I think I stand a decent chance in court if he did go that route but part of me worries that a judge won’t see it the same way we do.
