Why the heck is my toddler doing this?

So recently my 3 year old started humping the bed when she’s tired, it’s weird and I have no idea where this came from.  I told her not to do that and she will stop for a bit but then will go right back to it.  Anyone else’s toddler do this? I don’t even know how to react right now. This is so weird.

Don't sexualize the movement. It's probably her way of calming down, she doesn't see herself as "humping a bed".

Developmentally, that’s normal. Tell her that’s something you do in private, with nobody else. There are some good books for kids her age that will teach her about her body. It’s worth looking into. Otherwise, don’t shame her.

Totally normal!  They’re just wiggling around and seeing what all their body parts can do.  Hips are cool!  They move and bounce and that’s awesome.  Unless you have a strong reason to think something bad happens,nothing to worry about.  Our little dude does it all the time and has since he was younger than 1 but I know nothing has happened to him since he’s with me all the time and started before he was even very conscious of the world since he is a stomach sleeper.

It's normal. It could be a number of things but if you are concerned talk to your pediatrician. My girls do it right when they wake up and developmental has said it's 100% normal at this age

Is she normally a tummy sleeper? Toddlers will expend energy before bed by swinging arms and legs, etc. Unless you have a concern that something happened that warrants some investigation, then it’s probably just her way of expending energy.
