Didn’t go to Christmas Eve - IATA?

Question

I am 9’months pregnant and I just didn’t go to my husbands families Christmas eve party. I know my husband doesn’t care but his family may. They always have something to say. I am just trying to avoid big crowds due to flu and sickness AND I’m uncomfortable and ready to pop. 
I’m not going to my families side either because of the big crowd at my parents since they have a huge party. 
I feel like it kind of bothers my husband but I am seeing his parents tomorrow for Christmas to do presents so I figured it didn’t matter. I just want to be careful and make it to the finish line, 
Am I an asshole??

Absolutely not the asshole. No one is required to attend holiday gatherings, no matter their reasoning.

Well no but if you’re going to be around the people who were around the crowd, it doesn’t really make sense to avoid for that reason. You’re 9 months pregnant. At that point, you’re tired and just want to be home and comfy. That’s good enough of a reason to not go.

I wish I had done that tonight. I am 39+4 and we went straight from church to my in laws. My back and hips are making me pay for it! You shouldn’t feel bad!

Talk to him about it. You're trying to avoid being sick. Nothing wrong with that.

I don’t blame you, 9 months preggo is plenty enough reason to not go! I would talk with your husband though instead of assuming he’s okay, but worrying he may be bothered. We made a collective decision a few years ago to not do the Christmas run around and it has made a huge difference in our holidays. If people want to come see us they are welcome to, but we don’t chase around to all the parties.
