Brown stuff on underwear?

I’m on the pill and had unprotected sex yesterday but he did not finish in me. We stopped a while before he finished and he finished himself off away from me. Saw today I had brown stuff on my underwear. What could that brown stuff be?

Brown stuff is old blood. Blood turns brown after a while when exposed to air. This is often spotting that comes out slowly and turns brown by the time you see it on toilet paper, a pad or pantry liner, or on your panties.
What could have caused that? 
* It could be some old period blood, but it is unlikely because you did not see that after sex 2 days before. 
* It can be from an injury to your vaginal walls or your cervix. After sex we have some very small micro tears in the vaginal walls because of the stretching, poking, and rubbing. If it rough sex, or you are new to intercourse, or you were not fully aroused, that could be what is spotting.
* It can be breakthrough spotting which is a side effect of birth control pills. It happens when your uterus lining thickens with blood rich tissue, but it does not shed. This is more common on extended cycle birth control where you skip periods, but it can happen with other types as well. If this turns into bleeding outside the period week of the pill pack, your doctor can help you stop it.
