Why bother having a registry?

Why do people buy anything and everything for your baby except what you actually NEED from your registry? I just don’t get it. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I was literally just questioning this today 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ my MIL was over and asked if I had a registry and I said yes but I haven’t shared it yet, I’m not FULLY done and I still showed her on my phone and she said “awesome! This gives me ideas of what to get you that isn’t on your registry” like what? Why go out of your way to purchase something that’s completely not what is needed? She literally meant it as buying things that are not on my registry and not as in a different cheaper version(that I’m cool with). She did it with my first and now she’s almost 16 months and I’m still struggling with what to do with the unnecessary clutter my MIL got me. She would come over with BOXES full and I mean it if just random items I didn’t and won’t ever use, it’s overwhelming.

Why not be grateful for whatever you get? Nobody is obligated to buy you anything. They do it out of the kindness of their heart

I agree it's really annoying. I didn't even ask for expensive things on my registry at all or anything hard to find. My baby shower invite had a simple comment stating how to find my registry if someone wanted to bring a gift which gifts weren't an obligation...and my household is vegan so we only use products that are vegan and cruelty free. I asked specifically for NO Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo and lotion and added some vegan friendly brands that are no more expensive and easy to find and I'm not joking, every single person except for ONE bought me a Johnson & Johnson gift set like it was a joke or something. I was so baffled and didn't know what else to do but say thank you when I opened them up....I donated them all. The only thing people actually got from my registry was diapers and wipes which was great, I definitely needed them but I was definitely taken aback by all of the specific products I asked to NOT receive. 
I definitely am not having a shower for my next baby. I may just do a sprinkle for diapers and wipes. I can afford all of my baby's things anyway and I know I won't be stuck with a bunch of products I won't use that way.

Hello! 
What we are doing with our registry is adding cheaper things and buying all the bigger stuff ourselves. I even set it up to where if an item is over $50 multiple people can donate towards that item. 
I wrote in my registry notes / bio to please ask us if there is anything else you would like to buy that is not on the registry because we have already purchased a ton of stuff that is not on there. If they plan to buy off the registry, please provide a gift receipt in case we end up with duplicates. 
We live in a small town so things can be duplicated easily. So far the family gets it. I told my husband if we don’t need it, I’ll donate it to the women’s shelter.

Personally nobody buys crap for my kids 😂 I wish they did... but shoot, maybe what your people bought is what they could afford. Be grateful bc some of us dont have any support and have to do it ALL ourselves.
