Does the kitchen need to be baby proofed?

My husband doesn’t believe the kitchen needs to be baby proofed. He thinks I should have my eyes on the 14 month old at all times. Which I normally do. But I give birth in two months and won’t be able to do it as much. Thoughts?

He's being unreasonable. Of course your baby should be supervised all the time, but sometimes your eyes have to look other places, and it only takes two seconds for a baby to get into something. Unless you plan on being ultra mega helicopter mom whose eyes never have to look anywhere else, babyproof your kitchen.

Under the sink and glass should be baby-proofed at minimum. It only takes seconds for children to get into stuff. You’re not a terrible mother if you don’t have your eyes on your children every second. Stuff happens.

Yes it definitely should be baby proofed. We have gates at both entrances so our son can’t go in.

100% YES!! My son is 6 and childproof. There are many dangerous things in kitchens that can seriously harm or kill a child.

If it's not gated off, yes, obviously. The kitchen can be very dangerous.  We put up gates because it was too overwhelming to baby proof and we just keep our daughter out of there unless she is very closely supervised. Too many things can go wrong in a kitchen to take that risk if you ask me.

I would baby proof the kitchen just for the sake of your sanity. My daughter burned her hands on our stove when she was 2. and our son 13 month old cut his hand from a blade he found in one of the cabinets. It was a horrible experience. And I wish I would have invested in the stuff to baby proof our home before any of that happened. Again I feel like both those incidents were my own fault because I should have had my eye on them. I am more at ease now that it’s child proofed.

Yes. At a minimum you need to baby proof under the sink if there’s chemicals and any glass that’s within reach. 
So you need to perfectly lock and baby proof every inch? No. Sometimes I leave a cabinet of “safe” things for our kiddo to play in on purpose lol. But you don’t want to risk yojr kid getting into cleaning chemicals or things like that. It only takes a second. 
Plus in a month or two your kiddo will be wanting in every single drawer and absolutely wreaking havoc if you don’t baby proof lol
