Confused. Chemical pregnancy.

On 1/19 I had a positive pregnancy test. Within a couple hours, I started spotting and cramping. The next morning I woke up to a full blown “period.” I tested again, 1/20, and sure enough the line on the test was considerably lighter. I experienced normal period bleeding and cramps until today. My bleeding has since stopped, and today 1/22 the line is still there but darker than the test was darker than on 1/20. I’m confused. Could my body just be confused and producing small surges of Hcg? How long before a full negative test? I just want my closure, because there’s still a part of me hanging on to the idea that I could still be pregnant.
