If you were on a walk with your baby and they were crying, would you turn back or keep walking?

I was walking with my sister who has a 3 week old baby and she was in the stroller and she started to cry before we even left the house. The walk was about 30 mins long and I kept offering to turn back since she was crying nonstop but my sister said no she’s fine and kept walking and didn’t try to soothe her or pick her up or do anything. 
I’m asking because I also have a baby (a few months older though) and any time he starts to cry while I’m walking with him in the stroller, I offer his pacifier, sush him, and if that doesn’t calm him down in a minute or probably less, then I pick him up out of the stroller (he stops crying when I’m holding him) and turn around and walk with him back home.

It depends on why they’re crying. If it was a tired cry and I knew they’d fall asleep after a minute or two of walking, I’d keep walking. If they continue, I’d also make sure they aren’t too hot or cold. If they are hungry, I’d absolutely turn around to feed them.
In this situation, she blatantly ignored her babies cries. Babies (especially a newborn) don’t cry for no reason. She was neglecting their needs at that point. 
You can’t really say anything. BUT do ask if she’s okay. This could be a sign that she’s silently suffering from ppd.

Depends if it’s nap time/ time to eat .. if they’re just being fussy I’d distract but if nothing works.. I’m going back !

If babe was fed and changed before the walk I’m not turning back right away. I would stop and calm them down though. Often walking would help baby settle anyways.

I would try to comfort my baby. Ignoring the crying for 30 minutes doing nothing to stop it is neglect imo.

I voted keep walking before I saw there was more to the post 😅 just wanted to clarify as others have said that if baby was tired and I figured a few minutes of walking would but them to sleep, then I would try for that. If baby kept crying then I would go down the list of other things to do to soothe before turning around and heading home. I would not just ignore the cries like I’m the situation you described, and I hope you find a helpful way to talk to this mommy about her needs and baby needs. Good luck!

I don’t know if I’d turn around, but I definitely would check what’s going on and try to find a solution. So it’s unlikely that the baby cries for 30+ minutes if there is no pain, hunger, dirty diaper or extreme sleepiness?

I guess I’ll be the unpopular opinion here. When my daughter was a newborn, I suffered from severe postpartum depression. My daily walks were the only way I kept my sanity. Sometimes my daughter cried during our walks, but it was never because she was hungry or uncomfortable. She cried every single time I put her down. So yeah, sometimes I would put her in her stroller and let her cry while I took a 15 minute walk around our neighborhood. She was fed, changed, and wearing weather appropriate clothes and I was less than two feet away talking to her. Sometimes mom’s do what they have to for their sanity. 
Now, I do think 30 minutes was excessive. I still won’t even let my toddler cry for 30 minutes. I would have ended up carrying her or turning back around. I do think that this could be an indication that your sister may be struggling and you should offer help instead of judgment.

Baby’s that young need soothing, your sister was not doing this correctly. I would’ve held her and kept walking no need to turn back. If she continued to cry then I’d offer a bottle/breast.

I chose keep walking before reading the backstory. In this instance, I’d probably turn back as I’d only keep walking if it was a tired cry and the walk would help baby fall asleep.
