Vaginismis myth?

Have you ever had a health care provider/ SO/ friend/ anyone tell you that vaginisms is either a myth or they simply treat you like you're making it up? I have had partners that struggle to understand and I have had one health care provider that gave me a check up and I was in so much pain that I almost passed out! Anyone have similar experiences?

Not a myth. The pain is very real. Smear tests are agony, tampons are a big no for me. It is a psychological condition that is poorly known. Wish more research was conducted onto it.

It's because it's not very common so many people don't even know about it. My gynecologists didn't know about it either until I told them about the term. They were also confused as heck as to why I would cry and scream when they were trying to examine me. But seriously, it's something that should be taken seriously, it especially affects you, your sex life, your mentality. It's already frustrating enough on its own and the ones close to you shouldn't be treating you as if you were making this horrible thing up.

I had a gyn once tell me that my boyfriend must have been missing the hole.  When I explained that was very much not the problem, she suggested we have a glass of wine first to help me relax.

...then I found a new gyn!

Thankfully a doctor diagnosed me, and my boyfriend has been nothing but supportive, even though we've only dated for a month and are both 18/19. However it's girls I've noticed the most issues with, my best friend is just happy i have an answer but other girls try and brush it off as if it's normal to feel pain every time you have sex, or to bleed or feel pain for days after. I wish i knew about this way sooner and other girls were better educated on it as well

Maybe one or two doctors have understood me...

Through research I found out I was NOT a failure and not to the only person to experience this. I found out about vaginismus.

It's 💯 not a myth I'm going to help as many girls as I can.

My friend told me "that doesn't sound real" and said I'm uncomfortable and it's not a real thing. I was explaining to her what my gynecologist told me and that was her response.

It's not a myth, I have both that and vulvodynia and if a doctor told me I was making it up I'd punch them in the face. You can't make up this kind of pain.
