Little back story I had an ex who was violent and into drugs. I met him in Mexico when I went on vacation to my parents small town. Every year we go and I bump into him. 
This guy I’m talking to knows about my past relationship and my story. 
I told him I would like him to visit my parents hometown one day and he said he would love that. That happened like months ago
We were talking about Mexico today and he said “well maybe I shouldn’t go to Mexico with you guys cause of your ex. It’s not safe for me. You were with him for 10 years and he knows your family well. I’m out of all that.”
I just said “oh ok!” He likes me but it makes it seem like I’m not over my ex 
Felt like he’s not interested in being part of my family as he once said he was

￼ I would maybe try discussing with him why exactly he doesn’t want to go to Mexico. Is he genuinely afraid of his safety because of your past with your ex or does he maybe feel that you still have feelings for your ex etc. Maybe he genuinely is concerned about his safety, and maybe there’s a way that you could make him feel comfortable or safer going with you to Mexico? ￼
I know it’s a bit of a difficult situation. Coming from violence and then having a new partner. I came from a very violent marriage, and then unfortunately my ex began stalking my new husband and I and even located us in hiding in a small country town in Australia LOL. There have been some definite concerns for our safety but discussing it and talking about it has made it easier to digest and come up with a plan. ￼

I mean, I would explain to him that he wouldn't have to worry about the ex because you don't talk to him anymore and he's not going to come around your family. ￼ but of course, you would have to make sure that is in fact what happens. ￼

Just put you on his size and think. He probably knows lots about that relationship so I'm not surprise he doesn't want to go. It doesn't mean he is not serious with you. Don't be kust me, think about him too
