Pain after Intercourse

My boyfriend and I had sex and afterwards I was hurting SO BAD! I could hardly walk and I couldn't breathe! It was like a period cramp on steroids! Like, stabbing pain! I am expecting my period in a couple days, would that have anything to do with it? Seriously I've never been in that much pain in my life! But after a few longgggg minutes it went away! Any insight into this??
