I want to contact ex teacher

He and I talked a lot even after I took his class we have books,music, and many other things in common. I want to get to know him more... As a friend however he's no where on social media, I do know that he lives or/lived near my college. Is it weird to reconnect with high school teachers a year after you graduate? He was my favorite the only teacher I could talk to about Game of Thrones and Star Wars. We were two nerds in a school, just on opposite sides of the desk...
