Blood Work Needed?

Question

Hi ladies! My DH and I have been trying for 14 months, with issues on my end (possibly short luteal phase). I have been to the RE a few times, and if this cycle doesn't result in a BFP, I'll be on Clomid and try IUI on the next few cycles. However, I've only had ultrasounds, but haven't had any blood work done by any of my doctors. Should I ask for some blood work tests before I start the next round? I'm not sure what exactly they test for, so not sure if it always needed or not. Any suggestions or thoughts are much appreciated!! Thank you so much, and good luck!

I am surprised they haven't done any bloodwork yet. I would definitely ask. They should test to see how your thyroid is working, FSH and AMH levels, etc.

Yes, I would demand tests. It could be telling and most doctors will so this ahead of iui or even starting any fertility treatments. Maybe the skipped over it on accident? Regardless, sure couslnt hurt to ask.

DEFINATELY! Don't take no for an answer. I had rounds of clomid a few years back with no success. My ob didn't monitor me after initial blood test. After 3 months she just said it didn't work sometime and told me I needed a few months off. I was unhappy with this OB overall so I didn't keep that office.  I had a primary care provider years back but it wasn't covered by my insurance but as soon as i switched to my husbands insurance I went back as fast as they could get me in. My primary care physician (who used to specialize in OB) took the time to hear me out and refered me to a specialist. It turns out I have several issues going on that have affected my ability to get pregnant, however, are difficult to diagnose unless you have a full picture.

​I felt like something was not right, but trusted my dr. Now I wish I would have been more persistent and not wasted my time and money on meds that we're not right for me.

I would demand tests you need to know I waited 6 years before they tried me, they said nothing was up after 2 years then 4 years after they ended up taking one of my tubes and one ovary I'm on clomid now for my 3rd cycle (fingers crossed) xx
