Has anyone had a colposcopy?

Just found out I had an abnormal pap and will need a colposcopy. I'm also 17 weeks pregnant ?. I'm kinda freaked out, anyone know what's involved?

No!...It just means that they found some abnormal cells...they want to test these cells to make sure they are not cancerous cells. It's NOT an STD or any of these other crazy things I'm hearing on hear....ask your DOCTOR!

Yes. They will just take a closer look with magnified glasses and scrape little sample of the abnormal part of you cervix for further testing. Depending on what stage of abnormality it is they will schedule a LEEP, laser ablation or cone biopsy. However, MOST abnormal paps are not a cause for concern and generally will clear up on their own. I'm sure you're fine.

I've had two, no need for meds, like in another reply they hurt a tiny bit but nothing to bad. It shouldn't hurt your baby at all. Its basically a biopsy on your cervix. I've gotten totally normal Pap smears now so it's probably nothing just a precaution.

They probably wont do a biopsy since ur pregnant.. May do one after u have they baby or just repap. What kind did they tell you?? ASCUS? mild dysplasia??

I think it means you have an std. Like hpv (genital warts) and that they will cut them off so when you give birth you won't pass it to your baby.

I had one a few years ago, it's what all the others have explained. My advice would be, don't go on your own, I was very happy that my husband came with me for support xx

I have. I thought it's was going to be a big deal and it would be very uncomfortable, but I was surprised that I felt nothing during the procedure or afterward. The meds they give put you in a mild sleep. After they woke me up I thought they hadn't even preformed the procedure and it was already done! Don't worry. You will be fine. I would get it if the doctors recommend it. Never can be too cautious when it come to your health!

I would ask to get it sorted after you have given birth. I'm surprised they even did a smear test!
