What to count as the first day of your period

Question

I've read and have been told two different things when it comes to tracking the first day of my period. See, almost every time... I spot for a day or two before actually having a "normal" flow (sorry if tmi!) So would I count the first day of spotting as the first day of my period? Seems so simple but it really makes a difference with my monthly calendars!

I was also told the first day you start spotting. (tmi) I always spot a brownish redish color a full day before my full flow.

I was told by my fertile clinic Dr that cd 1 is red flow, not spotting. When I did cycle monitoring last month it lined up with ovulation on cd 15.

After having my daughter my cycles have been all over the place and I've been spotting for 2-3 days before my period actually comes. Now that my husband and I have decided to TTC again, I spoke with my doctor right after my last cycle and they told me that I should count from the day I start spotting. To be sure they told me to buy the ovulation tests and take them starting 10 days after I start spotting.  The next month I'm supposed to test 10 days from the start of my full period.  Good luck!

I count the first days as when u see red on the toilet paper .

I usually log my first brownish spotting as first day of period. But recently I just read somewhere that you need to log the first day is when the blood comes out. So yea, Im a lil bit confused as well.
