What can a man do to increase his sperm count ??

I just had a laparoscopy and 2 other procedures done to unblock one of my fallopian tubes. Even though it was successful, my doctor said that the only way we can conceive is through IVF because of my husband's low sperm count. I want to try fertility drugs to conceive. IVF us expensive. Has anyone else had the issue and did they conceive without IVF. I am 38 and my husband is 39.
