Folic acid, prenatal, or both?

I am TTC and trying to decide on whether to take prenatal, folic acid, or both. Please help!

Folic acid 400mcg is a must when ttc and then after finding out your pregnant prenatals are taken.

As long as the prenatal you pick has the recommended folic acid then you just need the one. I just take a prenatal pill because it contains everything I need. I am not pregnant yet but I am taking it now because I'm TTC

I recommend going to your doctor for preconception visit if you haven't already. My doctor tested for my folic acid levels via blood work. He said many women need 5x the folic acid in a normal prenatal. And sure enough, my levels were very low. So I take both a prenatal daily and the extra folic acid pills as well.  I started this 8 weeks before I started TTC
