Going overseas

Deja
Been married for a 2 months now, knew when we got married that we would be going overseas to Germany, main reason we got married so fast and only was engaged for 2 weeks. However now as it gets closer Im really starting to freak out. We dont leave till the end of January, but yesterday I put in my 2 week notice at work somewhere I have worked for the last 8 years and have worked my butt off to move up to where I am. I had to put my notice in earlier then I wanted since his car is done for and just didn't seem smart to buy a car and then sell in in the little bit of time frame we have left, so he is using my car till we leave(we live about 20 mins away from base). We are going to a small base in Germany that doesn't have base housing and I'm worried about what it's like to try to find a place to live. I'm worried I won't be able to find a job, and I'm worried I will hate living so far away from everyone I love for the next 4 years. I love my husband and I know how excited he is about going and all I feel is all this fear. Anyone have any experience with assignments overseas? Oh I don't know if this matters but he is in the Air Force.

Ya that's what I'm afraid of and my friends. I've lived in the same town my whole life. Just nervous about leaving home

I wouldn't mind Germany for our next PCS, but I would kiss my family!

Don't be fearful. Be open minded and embrace military lifestyle. You get to see so many places that maybe you wouldn't normally be able to afford to see! And know that PCS'ing is always stressful but it will become second nature and easier to deal with.

Thank you, think I'm more afraid since it's my 1st time leaving my home town too. Just going to miss everything.

May I ask where in Germany? I just pcs'd here, been here for 5 months now and I'm at the smallest base in Germany doesn't get any smaller. There's no on post housing only apartments but TRUST me you will love it. Also there's spousal preference so u will get a job if you choose that route.

Yes just be-careful since the community is small, people like to gossip so try to keep things to yourself

We PSCed from Germany a year ago. I promise, you'll love it. There's usually plenty job opportunities for spouses on the base. When you get there, try learning some German (you can usually find some classes on base) and travel! Everything is just a train ride away, pretty inexpensive and fast. This is your time to see Europe. Use up those 4-day weekends (most military personnel in Germany gets those monthly). :) Germans are usually really friendly and Germany is beautiful!
