I like my friends ex, help!

At the start of September my friend and this boy started 'speaking'. He really liked her and she was in love with someone else, so they stopped. I started speaking to him, as a friend and now a few month on I really like him and he likes me too, but none of mine or his friends know. Do I tell her the truth or do call it off?
