High School Bullies

Ladies, I recently had an interesting conversation with my mother. She said, "do you remember being bullied in high school?" Since it was only 7 years ago, I thought I would remeber that and I responded, "no." She said, "I always wondered if you realized you were bullied, guess that answers that."

She went on to tell me the story from her point of view. When I walked into high school, I was 6 foot tall and very petty (not trying to brag, I am), and a star athlete. But terribly shy.

My sophomore year, I started dating the 20 year old brother of one of my friends, he was/is 6'7" and I wanted a tall boyfriend. Well, there is really only one reason a 20 year old man dates a 15 year old girl. He was horribly controlling and abusive.

When I ended things, he started sending me emails, "I hope you die of AIDS. You're a slut. You're a whore/bitch/c-word." It was awful.

And then his sister started. She told all my friends I cheated on her brother, that I was a liar, a thief (wtf?!), and a slut.

She had a grade wide party and invited everyone but me. A day before the party, she gave me a crumpled invite and said, "my mom said I have to invite everyone, sluts included." I handed it back to get and said, "ha, like I'd go to a pedophile's house." Infront of the whole class.

Well, that's when my mother got called to the principal's office.

Being fairly private, my mother never really realized how badly I was hurting, but I was strong and confident and I always stood up for myself. It can be tough, high school isn't easy for anyone. But if you show your bullies you aren't weak and defenseless, they loose interest.

That little girl never spoke to me again, and to this day I don't view myself as being bullied, I view myself as being a stronger person because of it. Four years ends quickly enough, don't loose faith in life!
