Does anyone understand ovulation? How does it work?

Im so confused I thought I was 8w5d baby's only measuring 6w5d w no fetal pole or whatever.. And I thought ovulation occurred between days 15-18 of your cycle which is your fertility window which would be accurate with the baby's measurements but before my u/a I was told I was supposed to be 8w5d.. And now they insensitively have told me I'm probally miscarrying to come back in a week. I don't understand any of this.

They count from the first day of last missed period. This usually works with standard 28 day cycle; however, if you aren't on a 28 day cycle this will not be accurate. I have had irregular cycles and actually ovulated early on cycle day10. (This was on a 31 day cycle.) I conceived that day or the day after. This would make my ovulation day more accurate than the first day of my last period. This is actually why they calculate from last missed period because you ovulate around 14 days after the  first day of period, making you actually  2 weeks pregnant when you conceive and about 4 weeks when you miss your period.

If your cycles are 28 days, then ovulation typically takes place around day 14.  If your cycles are longer, however, then you would ovulate later.  Your luteal phase, the phase after ovulation, is usually about 14-16 days, so if you count back from your expected period 14-16 days then you can figure out a good estimate of when you ovulate.  So it depends how long your cycle is.  Mine are long, so I don't ovulate until day 20 or later.

You are suppose to count from the first day of your last period not from when you ovulated which is why u are off on your dates Im so sorry this happened to me I was suppose to be 9 weeks and the baby
