IUDs?

Hey everyone. So I've been on the pill for about 12 years and I love it. I know they say if its not broke don't fix it, but a couple years ago my gyno brought up Skyla, an IUD for women who haven't had children so its much smaller. I can see a big PRO of using an IUD is not having to remember to take a pill everyday. They also last for 10 years which is great because my husband and I don't plan on having kids for about that long. But some IUD CONS I've read about include cramping, painful insertion, and the possibility of it falling out of place and hurting me. Is it worth it? Anyone out there use an IUD? Love it? Don't love it?

I have paragaurd (copper IUD - 10 yr) and have never had a child. I'm in my early twenties and I love it. I didn't want Skyla or Mirena (staying away from hormones) and I have had it for the past 5 months. 
common misconception is that you need to have given birth before inserting an IUD and this is not true. My gyno actually said that because I had not had a child, I was least likely to have my IUD fall out. I switched from implanon (arm implant) and have never looked back. I was horrible about remembering my pill and for me the hormones in both the pill and implanon did cause me to have a larger appetite thus my increase in weight.
I have to say I have been pretty lucky as far as the negative aspects go when it comes to an IUD. 
My periods before birth control were irregular, light, and only lasted 3-5 says with moderate cramping only lasting the first day. 
On implanon they stopped completely.
Now on paragaurd I am regular, every month and now I have moderate to slightly heavy periods, and cramping is a little more intense, and now lasts Two days. Its definitely something I am happy to live with and not having any additional hormones circulating in my body.
Now about the insertion. You go in on last day to the day after your period ends (when the cervix is lower and softer) they measure your cervix ( I will say that on a scale of 1-10 this part was a high 7) and once that is done she plopped it in. Honestly the stretching and invasion of your cervix is the only painful part, at least for me. In took a pain pill before I had my appointment ad my doctor advised. They then cut the long strings and I was done! Moderate cramping lasted a day or so as my body got used to it.
I will say it may not be for everyone. If you have normally moderate to heavy periods and you are thinking about it, expect your periods to increase in pain and flow about 25%-50% more. This is just my personal experience talking. Good luck!

I got my iud put in last Wednesday. I chose the mirena over skyla bc it lasts longer. I have never had children and found the insertion to be painful at times but bearable. I have been spotting and have mild cramps. It's nothing too bad tho. I was on implanon and that totally messed me up.

Only the copper IUD lasts for 10 years. Expect lots of spotting in the beginning with all types. Insertion is painful for some women.

I didn't feel any pain with my Skyla insertion. It's just a little uncomfortable and I had bad cramping afterwards. The only downside I didn't get warned about is spotting afterwards. It's been every day for 2 weeks and hasn't stopped yet.

I loved it compared to other BC while I had it, but got pregnant and had a miscarriage while using Paraguard.

I have Mirena and I have a few complaints about it but overall I like it. I used to take oral contraceptives but I was so bad at remembering to take them that I was constantly worried about getting pregnant. Then I got the NuvaRing which I actually really like because you leave it in for a few weeks then replace it, but my boyfriend at the time didnt like it. Now I have Mirena. And the actual insertion wasn't painful, it was the residual cramping that really bothered me. I've had it in for over a year now and the first few months were pretty bad. I have constant cramping for a few weeks and it was just super uncomfortable and inconvenient. Now, the cramping is less frequent and less painful. I like it because I don't have to remember to take a pill or anything else but I wouldn't suggest it if you don't have a partner. It's just not worth it if you're not having sex. It is really nice to not have to worry about anything after though.

10 years? I have Skyla and it only lasts 3 years. Mirena is 5. Paraguard is 10 years I believe, maybe 12... I love my IUD! It's the only birth control I can use. The pill made me sick and I wouldn't eat. The shot was just a nightmare in every single way. I still have periods and they're still as regular. Little to no cramps on my period. My insertion wasn't too bad. It didn't hurt once it was over. It took like 2 minutes of UGH!! pain and then it was over.

My doctor told me about the IUDs As well however he told me that if I was going to do it I may wait til after ur first child because it would be less painful for insertion
