Morning after pill

Does anyone know exactly how the morning after pill (plan b one step ) works I had sex with my partner yesterday night (unprotected obviously). Then again today (unprotected obviously ) I realized yesterday was one of my highest ovulation and today wasn't as high. I took the pill today but my friend just told me that it doesn't work when you are already ovulating. Does anyone know if this is true?
