Is this weird?

So I'm almost 10 wks pregnant & I had my first appointment with the midwife last wk. Honestly I haven't even had this pregnancy confirmed yet because when I 1st found out I was pregnant I rang my GP & I was told that they don't confirm pregnancies & the receptionist told me to go & buy a pregnancy test! 😱 I told her I obviously took a home pregnancy test this is why I'm calling & I had a miscarriage the month before so I would have thought that they might want to see me earlier. Anyway she said I had to book an appointment with the midwife so fast forward 4 wks later & I'm at the appointment with my midwife & she asked me if I had been to the Dr to get the pregnancy confirmed I said no, this is my 1st appointment regarding this pregnancy. So I was expecting to get some sort of blood or urine checked to confirm that I was actually pregnant but nothing. She just have me some paperwork to fill out & booked me in so get a scan at the hospital in a couple wks. She also came to visit me at home yesterday & was asking me about my birth plan etc. My question is, is it normal that I'm almost 10 wks & getting all this information about hospital bookings & birthing plans (I also got the NHS prescription exemption form) yet still haven't had a blood test so they actually know if I'm pregnant or not?

Ps I did ask my midwife when I would get a blood test & she basically said that I wouldn't be getting it yet. 😣

That's been my experience. I'm 12 wks and haven't had any blood tests or ultrasound just one appt to fill out paperwork

They just don't do blood tests anymore. They say the home tests are just as good. Were you also told to self-refer to hospital??? I was really shocked that your Dr now has nothing to do with it. I'm 13 weeks tomorrow and have my scan in the morning, so finally get to find out whether or not everything is ok. It's only another couple of week. Fingers crossed they fly for you. Good luck xx

I've got my first appointment with the midwife tomorrow. 
When I tried to make an appointment with the doctors they sent me straight to the midwife, I asked if they wanted to check 'how' pregnant I was and they asked how many times I'd checked, I told them 4 times, they said the shop bought tests are so accurate these days there's no need for them to check. 
I even took my tests with me when I made my midwife appointment and they didn't want to see. So frustrating. 
Think it's a UK thing. There's a UK pregnancy group, maybe ask the question in there, they seem to know the NHS really well.

I don't think they do a pregnancy test unless you request it.  I've read of several woman getting positives at home and negatives at the docs because a lot of hpt are more sensitive (unless doc does blood test).  My first appt was scheduled for 8w I got an ultrasound to make sure everything was ok, a papsmear, I peed in a cup and they took a ton of blood.  I am in the states though.

I personally think that's quite odd?! My gp wouldn't let me see the midwife until they confirmed the pregnancy due to what I believe are obvious reasons. It's good that you have seen the midwife but doesn't make sense that she didn't take any samples from you as they are important. They check your blood and urine for any infections, make sure your previous vaccinations are still active and confirm your blood type. Perhaps they will take some samples when you go for your scan?

Weird my Dr got me in at 4 weeks to confirm and start me on vitamins and folic acid. My first ultrasound is monday im 8 weeks today.

I have an awesome relationship with my OBGYN so when I found out I was expecting, I called on a Monday and the earliest they could see me was that following Friday. I told the receptionist that I had gotten a postive hpt and then she went on to ask when my lmp was. So fast forward to that friday... I arrived at my appt and thought the first thing they would've had me to do was give a urine sample, WRONG!, I was immediately taken to ultrasound where I saw the baby, got to hear the heartbeat, and also received sonogram pictures. My baby was measuring at 8 weeks and 3 days which meant i ovulated a week later than I thought. After the ultrasound, then I provided a urine sample and had a talk with my doctor. After he gave me a welcome bag to motherhood, he sent me to get lab work. He said I will have appointments every 4 weeks until I'm 28 weeks. I think that's crazy they won't even confirm your pregnancy.

I had my first appt. at 9 w 3 days; that's the earliest they'd take me (between 9&11 weeks). I had an ultrasound (portable) where we saw heart beat (amazing!) but they didn't measure baby to determine how far a long I was ( I was bummed about that). We weren't able to hear the heart beat yet. I also did 
urine and blood test. My next appt. is exactly 4 weeks (Apr. 2nd can't come soon enough!) after my first at 13 w 3 days. I'm hoping that everything's still good!

I'm 8 weeks and my OB has yet to confirm my pregnancy.  I went in for my labs and had my urine tested for infections at 6 weeks and asked them then if they ran any test to confirm the pregnancy. She said no because I got a positive on my home pregnancy test and they would use the exact same test on my urine sample so what was the point. I missed my period. I'm not bleeding. I have pregnancy symptoms so why test again was her thinking. I have my first ultrasound on 3/31 (at 9w4d) so I guess we'll find out then if I'm crazy or if there is actually a baby in there. 😂
