Friends?

Question

Does anyone else seem to have friends that just completly disappeared since they found out you got pregnant? My best friend in the entire world , who is also my cousin FORGOT I was pregnant. I'm 5 months now, and she was the first person to know. I feel more alone now then I ever have.

That happens when you have kids. Your lifestyle will change and it doesn't necessarily mesh well with people that you are close to. They don't do it on purpose usually but you just won't have as much in common anymore if they don't have kids. My husband and I were 22 when we had our first and our friends and even some close family members just dissappeared because we changed our lifestyle to care for our child. We had a schedule even though we are pretty laid back. We even have friends who had kids that hadn't really "grown up" yet that we rarely hear from because we don't go out anymore. We have family time when we can and we have made friends with other couples with kids around the same age. But we were pretty young having our first so it's kind of hard for us to find people with more in common with us.

Answer

I think things can change, but I also think with the effort on both parts, friendships can stay intact. A couple we are friends with, I think they've done a great job. They still grab dinner with us (sans kids) or grab a drink, when they can. Or they invite the friends to their house for a get together.
