Switching obgyns?

Kisses - A

I am really sorry this is long but I have no one else to ask but i know I should call the doctor but here it goes.

So as I get closer to going off my birth control and trying for #2 I had a few thoughts pop into my head. I was hoping for some input. Please bear with me.

As I have previously given birth to a 27 weeker, I will high risk and according to my current doctors i have a good chance of delivering early next time. That being said I know I want to be affiliated with a Level 3 nicu just in case. My ob is affiliated with a level 2. Here's where my problem lies. I have been researching other obs affiliated with level 3 nicu hospitals and found one I am interested in.

1. Do I wait until I am closer to ttc to make an appointment with a new ob?

2. Should I schedule my annual exam with the new ob?3. Do I do the exam or preconception appointment first?

4. Do I take a copy of my medical records from my current obgyn or will they get the records?

5. Or should I wait until I am pregnant to worry about switching obs.

Has anyone switched obs? Is it awkward?

Sorry I'm hormonal from my period and nervous bc I only have a few more months before we start trying.

Thanks ladies. And I apologize for the word vomit.

If you'd like to get to know the new OB before you get pregnant, make an appointment beforehand (just in case you hate them!  Lol) Always take your medical records to a new doctor, especially if you have a history of something. Good luck!

I totally understand, and a doc will almost always push their affiliated hospital

thanks. my current obgyn just seemed to keep pushing the hospital she is affiliated obviously and we were going to deliver there with our first. when our son was coming 13 weeks early I had to be transferred. I just don't want to go through that again especially while in labor.

Don't feel bad about switching obs. You'd feel worse if you didn't take action. I would schedule a visit with the new ob to get a sense of them first then have my records moved to them once I was sure. You don't have to give anyone an explanation when switching obs so don't overthink it

I would make the appointment with new Ob for a preconception meeting so yall are on the same page. This is what I had to do when I was researching for Obs that focus on early premee and nicu. This appt is to go over your bed history and then conception plan for when you do become pregnant so there's no surprises.

I have never had a obgyn doctor but we are trying for our first. I have had other doctors for my different conditions and if I am not happy I switch. I would be the same way with the obgyn as well.

Well its not that I'm not happy with my current dr. it's just if she's not affiliated with a hospital better equipped to handle my next (possibly preemie) baby I would rather find a dr with a hospital that can. that's what makes it hard. but you all have been quite helpful.
