Dog fight with husband

My husband and I are having a huge fight over putting our pit in a kennel in our backyard because he keeps digging up the grass and chewing up sprinklers and wires on a car back there. It would only be for part of the day and he is throwing a fit about it being small.. It is 8ftx4ft which is plenty of room and a tarp on top for shade. We also take him for walks and he sleeps inside. Who is in the right? Advice?
