Would you adopt a child in the foster care system who is older than 12 who may be troubled to give them a second chance when no one else would?

My parents adopted me at 13. I came to live with them at 11. They also adopted my 2 biological sisters as well as the baby who came to live with us shortly after me and my sisters. I was in and out of foster care from the age of 5 and my (adoptive) mothers family told them not to adopt me but they did anyways. Life was far from perfect but it was way better than what it would have been if I'd stayed in the system.

I myself would .... I was one of those 12/13 year olds who was given a second chance :) my problems were really only that I talked a lot and I was hyper and had seperation anxiety and hated to be alone :( I still do

This question is too close to home. But if I'm going to be completely honest, I wouldn't. I've seen and am an older kid in foster care. These kids are scarred for life and you need to be HIGHLY trained to deal with them. Any old Joe Shmoe couldn't. I see it all the time. They're mini adults..

My parents did it for me and my sister (at the time I was 10 she was 14) and we both totally overcame all of the stereotypes and broke the patterns of how we would have ended up. We needed someone to be there for us even though we were considered older.

Yes they need to be given a chance and gain trust it would be hard but in the end some day it would have been worth it :)

Yes we've already decided this for our future, when we're done having our own children we are going to adopt a preteen or teenager. I think it's great others have this thought, most wouldn't take a grown child in because of how hard it can be. I say bring it on, everyone deserves a family.

I've actually been talking to SO about this, as we both don't think we are mentally capable of raising a newborn again, but I desperately want another child.. 
I would absolutely consider later on adopting or fostering if I was eligible, as I honestly don't think I have the want or strength to go through what I went through with Miss1.

I wouldn't. I feel like you need to have a certain type of personality to welcome a strangers child into your home, especially when they have issues that need to be worked out. It's a great thing that there are people out there that possess that personality, but I definitely don't.

My grandparents tried that and once the adoption went through the kid tried to kill my grandfather while he was sleeping and did it more then once. They started putting a lock on their bedroom door just to keep him out.

I would problems and all everyone has them so why not try and help you wouldn't give your own kids up for adoption because they were on drugs or the have behavior issues. I myself was in a proctor home but I knew a girl in foster who had was brought here illegally from an orphanage in Russia and in all her foster homes she was beat and raped and she eventually turned to drugs and overdosed and all she ever wanted was to be part of a family to be loved and shown that there's a different way of life than what they have been raised around
