How long is too long?

Question

I've been on the pill for about 12years straight. No abortions, no miscarriages, NEVER been pregnant! I'm 28 years old. How do I know if I can get pregnant? Have I been on the pill for way to long? I wanna get pregnant at 30...will it be hard for me?

Women have been taking birth control pills for 55 years and they've been proven not to cause infertility. I wouldn't worry about your pill use. And the fact you haven't gotten pregnant just means you're taking it correctly and it's working.

I was on birth control pills for about 13 years (until age 27). After I quit taking them, it was 11 months before I had a period (after initial bleeding for a few days immediately after stopping). I had one period, then unexpectedly became pregnant the next month without trying at all. Plus, I supposedly had little to no chance of ever having children b/c of cervical cancer. I'm almost 32 now & have a 2 1/2 year old son.

I've been on the pill for 16 years, I'm 31 and looking to conceive my first at the end of this year. My Dr told me to come off of the pill and wait for two cycles to pass before I start tracking ovulation etc as this is generally how long it takes for things to settle, now matter how long you've been on the pill. So I came off last month, had a normal 5 day period and so far, so normal. My period should be due again in 4 days, so we'll see! I used to have really long, heavy bleeds which is why I got put on the pill as a teen, will be interesting to learn what my natural cycle is like now!

There have been no indications for long term fertility effects with extended birth control pill use. Depending on your body, it takes 2-6 to return to your hormone baseline after you stop taking them.

My aunt was able to conceive but she was not able to keep the baby due to being on the pull for over 20 years. I would suggest you stopping or switching your method. Perhaps a needle or withdrawal or some other form. Just so your body doesn't reject the baby when you its time to carry one full term.

I was on birth control for 11 years and it took me 3 months to conceive my baby after getting off of it! If you have concerns I would ask your doctor but I think you will be fine!
