Is this even possible?

My step daughter has just came into our custody permanently recently. We had temporary custody for a year. Meaning the court found her mother unstable enough to care for her. Now my 5 year old is hearing she is getting a sibiling. Her birth mother and wife are adopting. But they haven't taken the mandatory adoption classes. Can they adopt a child of they lost custody of her birth child? Just concerned because her mom is already saying things to my 5 year old like "you're My favorite until the new baby comes" ... I'm worried they will leave her broken if/ when this baby comes in November

If social services determined she is an unfit mother for her own child, an adoption agency won't approve her. If she just finds someone who wants to give her their baby for cash, they'd still have to go to court for it to be legal and the court wouldn't approve it. If she ends up with a baby, I'd call social services because there is no way she has legal custody.

I would think they would have to go through a series of tests before doing so. At this point I would just not let the girl you have see her mother any more if the more is just going to insult and mistreat her. I know I am harsh and it might be the wrong thing to do but her feelings now of being wanted and loved need to be fulfilled and her more is not providing any of that. It's just plain wrong. I hope she isnt allowed to adopt. That angers me. Sorry! I hope all is going well with the raising of the child.

Pretty sure legal adoption does a background check and that I would hope would come up. I could be wrong though.

I called 411 kids just to ask. They said even if it's a private adoption they still have to go through the court. I mean I would have no problem with them adopting a baby. But they started when we were going,through court. The mother has,mental issues and refuses to take her meds and abuses her wife... Its not a safe home

Are you in a state where it is legal for a single parent (her birth mother's wife) to adopt? Is it possible that she is planning to adopt without her partner being legally involved? Just throwing out scenarios. I know that in some states it is not legal for gay couples but legal for single parents to adopt.
