Ladies I really need your insight

I went to the doc today to ensure everything's ok with me because I've been having abnormal bleeding between periods. My doc wants me to take birth control for two months to regulate my cycles. In the past I've had issues with the pill it makes me moody and irritable. He plans on helping me get pregnant afterwards in hope that this will help me regularly ovulate. Should I skip it and just start taking clomid though? He wanted to get me on that after the two cycles of birth control. I'd rather skip to just clomid though to be honest...birth control just seems like the wrong fix.  Any thoughts on what I should do? I just want my abnormal bleeding to stop and to get pregnant.... Any tips would help please. Thank you and baby dust!
